January 18th, the Honolulu Fire Department found a woman buried nearly two-hundred feet down a steep mountain. Luckily the woman was found thanks to her dog who was apparently ‘lost.’
The authorities got a call this morning by a hiker on the Lanipo Trail saying a dog was seen barking alone. The dog was on the very edge of the steep mountain, where her owner was found. The authorities rescued the dog by flying a helicopter over the mountain and repelling down toward the dog. After the rescuer got the dog to safety the rescuer saw another object. They repelled back down, finding a backpack filled with a bunch of personal belongings. Then they began looking for the dog’s owner and found her under 100 feet below where the bag was found. Firefighters are saying if not for the dog, the would have never found the woman, making the dog a hero.
