In today’s breaking news (April 5th), a 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck in New Jersey–it was big enough to be felt in Pennsylvania and New York.
Earthquakes are very uncommon in this part of the country. So, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake in this area has shook many people (no pun intended). It hit at around 10:20 AM near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, which is located about 40 miles west of New York City. The huge quake was felt across multiple states and cities. There were reports of rattling as far as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and even Baltimore, Maryland. According to the USGS, it was felt all the way from Maine to Washington D.C. This earthquake is being labeled as one of the biggest earthquakes on the east coast in the last century.
So far, there haven’t been any reports of significant damage done to any major buildings.
