Tropical flamingos navigate from the Caribbean to Lake Michigan, Wisconsin; a marvelous sight for the on-lookers.
On a peaceful and ordinary Friday, September 22, 2023, in Washington Port, Wisconsin, on-lookers and observers from the beach witnessed five American flamingos; three adults with pink plumage, and two juveniles clad in gray with elongated necks and narrow, threadlike, but muscular legs. This sight astonished the people, gathering seventy-five bird enthusiasts by the word spread on social media. Additionally, American flamingos are non-migratory, however, they can move long distances for food or breeding opportunities. For example, the winds of Hurricane Idalia pushed the flamingos north in late August, forcing them to migrate for food, breeding opportunities, and possibly a temporary living. Although the situation appears frightening and concerning, the new living conditions are sustainable for the American flamingos, meaning the flamingos are living comfortably without a lack of breeding, food, and necessities.
The American flamingos migrated unusually to Lake Michigan, Wisconsin by Hurricane Idalia winds, making them adjust and adapt to the new climate, habitat, and necessities/resources. The link Flamingo Phenomenon may be used for further information/intel.
