Awareness of Healthy Choices – Molly Grandel

It is important for teenagers to have healthy behaviors, like nutritious eating and regular physical activity.

Healthy eating and regular exercise will help a teenager feel energized, learn better, and stay alert in class. Eating healthy foods means getting the right balance of nutrients your body needs to function every day.  As a teenager you are still growing it is important to incorporate fruits and vegetables, Dairy products, lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts to maintain a healthy diet. Cameron Zeo says, “Eating healthy is an important part of my life I take my health very seriously.”

There are many health benefits from regular exercise and physical activity. Exercise along with healthy eating can prevent gaining weight and help you lose weight. Physical activity can make someone feel better and more relaxed. People may also feel better about their appearance when they exercise regularly, which can boost their confidence and improve their self-esteem. Regular physical activity can help a teenager  prevent or manage a wide range of health problems and concerns, including stroke, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, depression, and certain types of cancer, arthritis and falls later in life.

Like mentioned in the previous paragraph, it is proven that healthy habits can lower your risk for serious diseases such as diabetes, asthma, heart disease, and some forms of cancer. Victoria Conti says , “Many of these problems run in my family so it’s important for me to work out and eat healthy to prevent them.”  Overweight or obese Kids are at high risk for developing these diseases. Type 2 diabetes and heart disease used to be only reported in adults but are now being found in teenagers in today’s society.  It is important to maintain healthy habits because developing these problems can take years of your life.

Even substituting an unhealthy snack for a healthy one each day can go a long way.  If you don’t have time to work out each day working out three times a week for at least 30 minutes is still proven to make a difference. Exercising and working out can be a hassle if you have a busy life but it is important to your health to make time.
