Trick or Treat

Coming up on October 31 is the holiday of Halloween. For this occasion, people dress up in costumes of many different people and things and go trick or treating around their neighborhoods for all the goodies that people hand out.

On Halloween, it is tradition to give out candy to the trick or treaters. Halloween has a lot of historic symbolism when it comes to the candy. It was believed that the monsters of Halloween would leave the house and the houses owners in peace if they got candy from them. Today, the monsters would be all the people that are dressing up. The homeowners give out candy to them so that they leave.

There are some people out there that prefer to give out healthy or healthier snacks rather than sweet snacks on Halloween to the trick or treaters. They believe that it’s not good for kids to eat straight sweet snacks on Halloween. Instead of handing out just lollipops and snickers bars, some people like to hand out healthy alternatives like apples or other types of fruit. Or instead of handing out artificially flavored gummies, they choose to hand out natural fruit gummies. There are also sweet treats that have lower sugar counts that people can give out.

Many of the goodies that people hand out on Halloween are sweet and sugary stuff like candy. Candy hits the sweet spots for not only kids but adults as well. “I have a sweet tooth,” says trick or treater Brooke Diamond. Brooke loves the fact that she gets to walk around in costume and get handed free candy. She makes sure to get enough sweets to last her for the next couple days.
