Spring Events

Spring is finally here. The weather is starting to warm up and spring events are starting to begin. One of the many events students are looking forward to begin is the sport track. Many Jefferson students participate in track. There are a variety of students from each grade level who participate. There are multiple events to do in track. Running is the main one. There is sprinting and distance running. Sprinting is running shorter distances such as a 100 or 200 meter dash. Distance running is running from 400 to 800 meters or 1 to 2 miles. The goal for each of these is to run the fastest. Students can also jump. Their options are long jump, triple jump, and high jump. Long jump is running down and jumping off the dominant foot into the sand pit. Triple jump is jumping on the same foot twice then the dominant foot last into the sand pit. The goal for these is to jump the farthest. High jump is running at a curve to jump over a horizontal bar backwards. The goal for this is to jump the highest and not knock off the bar. Last but not least is throwing. Students can throw javelin, discus, and shot put. Javelin is a light spear. Discus is a heavy disk. Shot put is a heavy ball. The goal for each of these is to throw the farthest.
