Summer Time Is Closing In
Even though I like school, I like summer break a lot more. Summer break means sleeping in, staying up without worrying about having school the next day, watching movies all day and all night, and much more. For me though, summer break means more time for reading, which is something I love to do. This summer I hope to do more things that I have not done during the past summer breaks. I hope to hang out with my friends a lot more, go to more concerts, and get out and about more.
Last year was the first year that I went to the rock festival Warped Tour. It took hours upon hours of convincing and sweet talking to finally get my mother to agree to let me go. My friend Mary went with me and my dad took us. I feel like we all had a pretty good time, and we all had something that really stood out for us about that day. Mary was excited about seeing Mod Sun, whose music she really liked. My dad likes and listens to that same type of music so he rather enjoyed it as well. I got to meet one of my favorite bands, We Came As Romans. I also got to see one of my favorite bands, Neck Deep, perform. I got tickets for Vans Warped Tour for this summer and I am very stoked about it. I hope to take my friend Brittany with me. Brittany is a fan of pop culture and does not really listen to rock music. This will a brand new experience for her. This year my favorite band, The Story So Far, is going. I know that I will have a great summer break because of Warped Tour.
Every summer my mom, stepdad, and I go camping. My best friend Brooke went with us last year. My sister, nieces, and stepsisters all went too. We did not really go at the best time last year. All of the days we were there, except for the first day, it was cold and rainy. The first day was warm and sunny, but the days after did not match up the that. Even though it was cold and rainy during our camping trip, I had a pretty good time. I am not much of a person to go outside and stay outdoors for very long, but I had fun on our camping trip. We plan to go camping again this summer. I do not enjoy going camping that much, but it gets me off of the couch during the summer.
We had found out that my dad was leaving for Afghanistan not too long ago. My dad is a great person to have in your company. Well, for me at least. I am like an exact replica of my dad. I got my love for rock music, Elvis, horror movies, and sense of humor from my dad. He is the person that I go to amusement parks with. Both him and I will ride any roller coaster and any ride. Because he has left to go to Afghanistan for over a year I plan to go to amusement parks with my friends. My group of friends that are freshmen and I have already planned to go to Kennywood at some point in the summer. I do not know if my freshmen friends are like me and are willing to ride absolutely any roller coaster and ride, but as long as we go on the Swings I will be more than happy.
Another thing I will do over summer break is celebrate my birthday. I will be turning seventeen years old on August 3rd. I never really do anything special for my birthday. We invite my grandparents over every year and I spent it with them and my parents. I enjoy doing that. I love my grandparents very much. My pappy Art is practically my best friend. We are always attached at the hip when we are with each other. I treasure every second I spend with him. My mom usually makes macaroni and cheese on my birthday for everyone because it is still one of my favorite things to eat. The day after my birthday or a few days after her and my stepdad will take me to any restaurant I want for my birthday dinner. I usually pick a place where I can get an insane amount of crab legs. On my birthday I spend half of it with my mom and half of it with my dad. My dad does the same thing for my birthday. He takes me to any restaurant I want to go to, which is again to a place where I can eat my weight in seafood. This year I will not get to spend my birthday with my dad due to him being overseas.
I plan to hang out with my friends during summer break. I will definitely hang out with my best friend Brooke over the summer. Brooke and I have been best friend since about the sixth grade. Over the summer we always go to each others houses and go out and do things. What we normally do is sit in her room and watch movies all day long. We quite enjoy it though since we do it every time I go over to her house. We love to watch horror movies together. They are our favorite type of movies to watch together. During the summer I plan to hang out with another best friend of mine, Matt. We have been best friends since the seventh grade when we were assigned seat next to each other in science. Ever since then our friendship grew and grew into the strong friendship that we have today. Matt and I have never hung out together outside of school before and we plan to change that over the summer. I also plan to hang out with my small group of freshmen friends during summer break. We have hung out three times so far and they have been very enjoyable. Hopefully our little group will hang out a few more times over the summer. We have planned to go to Kennywood together at some point in the summer.
One final thing that I know I will do during summer break is reading. Reading is my favorite thing to do. I love opening my mind up and having it explore to different places. I like having my mind think new thoughts, imagine new things, see different places, people, and things. Reading relaxes and calms me. I feel tranquil and serene when I read. I plan to do a lot of reading throughout the summer. Summer goals for a lot of other teenage girls would be going to the beach and getting tan whilst my summer goals are to read as many books as I can.
I never really do anything over the summer. I do not do anything that is very exciting or out there. Normally I read all day or watch movies day and night. This summer I plan to read as many books as I can, hang out with my friends, celebrate my birthday, go to Kennywood, go camping, and go to Warped Tour.
