On Thursday, November 29, 2017 Mrs. Kniha and six Biology II students attended the Sam Rhine Conference held at North Allegheny High School.  The conference is designed for high school students and teachers, and is a field trip that will influence career decisions. Sam Rhine has been teaching students, teachers, and medical professionals about recent advantages in genetics for over 25 years. Students learn about new discoveries and applications in medical genetics and tissue engineering.

Every year at Jefferson-Morgan, Mrs. Kniha takes some of her students to attend this 4-hour genetic update conference. Mrs. Kniha usually takes current or former Biology II students to this convention. Around 400 students were in attendance at North Allegheny High School.  Some of the topics that students learned about included how people acquire cancer, cancer diagnosis and even new cancer treatments.

Erik Sullenbarger shared that he had a great time at this science conference and that if he had the chance, he would attend again. He learned about new topics that he hasn’t known of before. Erik says, “The trip was great, I learned a lot and there were a lot of interesting people there. It was nice having the opportunity to learn new stuff about science”.
