For good luck, people from Spain participate in a tradition called “Eating 12 grapes” at midnight.
Before midnight on December 31st, Spain participants will take on the challenge of finishing 12 grapes one by one without time to spare. Additionally, if one finishes twelve grapes, he/she will obtain prosperity and good fortune for the new year. Various people join to take on the challenge for a better year; however, not everyone finishes the challenge. For example, if one doesn’t eat the twelve grapes, his/her new year will be ruined and teemed with misfortune. Although this seems tricky and true, there hasn’t been enough evidence to support the theory, but the theory was developed into a tradition where multiple people test he/she’s luck.
Briefly stating, participants in Spain gamble for a better future by finishing a batch of twelve grapes before midnight strikes on December 31st.
