Most people struggle with opportunities because of the anonymous pros and cons, meaning that while others thrive with personal space or alone time, others struggle with the challenge. Although others have different perspectives and expectations regarding the decision to be alone, many psychologists state that isolation offers a variety of benefits such as relief, repose, peace, and overall space, however, since people have different perspectives, being alone could cause stress, anxiety, and other negative health problems.
Occasionally, the terms lonely and alone are often twisted because of their distinct similarities. For example, depending on the person, the terms are frequently confused and the definitions are switched. Usually, people state that being alone is equivalent to pain and suffering, and interpret the alone time as agonizing and insufferable. However, the meaning of being alone is a healthier version of being lonely, allowing positive benefits to take effect. Likewise, Kendra Cherry states, “Loneliness causes people to feel empty, alone, and unwanted.” Although both terms are distinct, people still confuse the terms, making his/her reactions and perspectives puzzling. Additionally, being alone is a fine decision for everyone, even though for some people the effects are uncomfortable, however, the uneasiness can easily be situated through accepting yourself and working through obstacles in your surroundings.
Replying to loneliness, being lonely is a whole different feeling than being alone because to be alone, it’s a personal decision, meaning someone may desire alone time to work on themselves or for solo activities, on the other hand, loneliness is a feeling, and usually not a choice since it’s an effect from a cause. For example, loneliness can occur due to many different reasons like if someone is in a situation where important people are leaving and ending friendships, or as one leaves, loneliness can occur from thoughts. For example, while one leaves, one may continue to have sunken feelings, which leaves the person feeling depressed and hopeless because of one’s actions, and although one can’t control another’s action, it can still upset the person; not only his/her thoughts but also your action alone.
Although being alone is a puzzling situation, the effects are beneficial to oneself for a variety of reasons like self-soothing, enjoyment with oneself, relaxation, happiness, stress reduction, increased self-awareness, and the freedom to pursue individual interests without external conflicts like bullying, negativity, or distractions in general. These benefits are essential for personal growth, especially for the struggling, and although others have problems with solo activities, whether it’s self-consciousness, anxiety, or depression, being alone and disregarding the negatives allow for a better life and healthier thoughts. Additionally, as The Jed Foundation states, “Learning to be alone can give you space to think about your feelings, ideas, hopes, problems, and experiences, It’s also a great opportunity to get to know yourself better and spend time resting and relaxing” the idea of being alone isn’t as agonizing and life-threatening as it seems, however, everyone has different perspectives, but everyone can overcome obstacles life has thrown at them.
As stated before, being lonely is a personal option, however, it’s never required because everyone has their ideas and substitutes for coping mechanisms. Additionally, regardless of how others think, both terms are different and unique, which will be difficult to acknowledge, however, throughout the future, one should realize the difference before a certain period, while also engaging in what he/she believes is reposing.
