How To Dye a Rose
Ever wonder how to dye a rose a certain color(s)? Well wonder no more! You’re about to learn how. There are eight easy steps and only five materials you will need to accomplish beautiful colorful roses.
The materials you will need are 2 vases (any size), food coloring (colors of your choice), a measuring cup (for the water), white roses and a pair of sharp scissors (to cut the stems of the rose). It shouldn’t be hard to gather up these items. You don’t exactly need a whole bouquet of flowers, unless you want to that is. Now after you’ve gathered up all your materials you are now able to begin dying flowers.
Step 1: add clean water into a vase and set it aside
Step 2: Add clean water into a vase, until it is about half full.
Step 3: Add approximately 20-40 drops of food coloring for every 2 cups (500 ml) of water in the vase. **the amount of food coloring you add depends on what shade you’re trying to achieve. For a more soft color add about 20 drops. For a deeper more vibrant color add more food coloring. **
Step 4: Gather up the flowers, make sure the stems are pointed downward.
Step 5: Cut off about 2 inches (5.08 cm) from the bottom of all the stems DIAGONALLY using sharp scissors so that the bottom tips of the flower will be POINTED.
Step 6: Place all the flowers into the colored water (in the vase), stems first.
Step 7: Place the vase (with the flowers in it) in a cool place and allow them to sit undisturbed for about twenty-four hours. During this time the veins in the flowers stems will suck the colored water from the bottom of the stems all the way to the tips of the flowers petals.
Step 8: After about 24 hours (or until they’re colored how you would like) transfer the flowers from the colored water vase into the vase with the clean water.
You can use any type of flower you want as long as it is white. Personal dyed flowers are a great gift for just about anything and accomplishing this idea does not cost much at all. It is easy and pretty fun, but it can be messy! So make sure you are doing this project in an area where important things cannot get dye on them, it is honestly very hard to clean up dye.
