Remember being a kid? (This is directed towards the teachers and staff) Do you remember having certain Christmas traditions that you would do nearly every single year? Remember how happy you was beginning the traditions for the first time? Well every state and Country has their very own Christmas traditions. They have there own unique spin on Christmas. Some traditions have evolved over the years and some new ones have been brought up.

One Christmas tradition that many families do is The Elf on The Shelf. You get the set which includes a book and a scout elf. The book is called The Elf on the Shelf. This book explains that the scout elves get their magic by being named. In the back of every book, families have an opportunity to write their elf’s name and the date that they had adopted it/got it. Once the elf is named, the elf receives its special “Christmas magic”, which allows it to fly to and from the North Pole and give all of its information to Santa. After you name the elf it gets it “Christmas magic” and gains the ability to move around the house and travel to and from to Santa to tell Santa whether your child/children have been naughty or nice. There aren’t any specific rules your child must follow, but there are two rules that every parent uses; 1.) Your daughter and or son are not allowed to touch the elf, if so then the elf could lose its magic. 2.) no playing with the elf. Honestly you can make up your own rules, or have none at all.

Another Christmas tradition that some families do and is kind of new is the Christmas Eve Box. it’s a gift  you open up on Christmas eve, usually the gift contains 3 things; 1.) Movie to watch 2.) Pajamas to sleep in 3.) hot cocoa mix 4.) snack foods. It is a fun thing to do with the family. You get a new set of pajamas to sleep in, a movie to watch before you go to sleep usually something like Frosty the Snowman, hot cocoa to make to watch during the movie and some snacks to eat while watching the movie (usually something along the lines of popcorn).

My mom, step dad, sister and I do not really have a Christmas tradition along the lines of The Elf on the Shelf or The Christmas Eve Box. Our tradition is going to our grandmother’s house every Christmas eve and opening up the gifts she gets us. We’re trying to do a tradition where we open up a Christmas gift on Christmas eve at our house, we at least my sister is trying to. Christmas/December traditions are a great thing to start with the family. It makes Christmas a little bit more exciting.
