Cobalt Game Review
Cobalt is a platform game for the Xbox One. It’s a game made by Mojang, the same people who made Minecraft. Expectations for Cobalt were high since it was made by a successful company. Sadly those expectations weren’t met after the release of the game.
Cobalt starts off pleasantly with its intuitive combat system and an easily manageable arsenal of weapons and countermeasures. There’s also a very pleasing soundtrack to the game. The music is similar to elevator music but it’s catchy and kitschy. There are early encounters that teach the player the basics of the game throughout the first few expansive levels. At this point in the game you would think they did a decent job.
Throughout the game there’s frustration that builds up as the player quickly. The enemy placement in this game is horrible. It seems random or malicious and it results in a lot of unprevented deaths to the player. Cobalt gives the player precision tools and it encourages the player to flex their muscles and agility to block incoming projectiles and return fire. Most of the time the outcome of this is frustration and anger.
The player respawn system is bad as well. Once you die your player will respawn in a recent area. Most of the time the player respawns surrounded by enemies. This is one thing anyone who plays games hates he most. It’s the most frustrating factor any game could have.
Cobalt isn’t very well put together. This game seems good at first glance, but once you really jump into the game it gets horrible. There’s some fun aspects of the game but just as you think its getting better, the flaws start to shine soon after. This game has a lot of improving to do before earning a higher rating. This game was rated 4.5/10 by IGN.
