New Year New Start

With the snow going away for a weekend, and the weather going warmer, I had to find something to do other than skiing. I remembered about a track in Butler, PA, called Switchback Raceway. Racing motocross in the winter is not a normal thing, but with the weather we have been having, it is possible. Last weekend it was forty five degrees, but the track is also inside. The facility supplied everybody with heaters to keep them warm and a concession stand to care their hunger. The race was a good turn out and it was very exciting.

The track was nothing I have ever raced before since I was little. The course was difficult with all of the jumps close together and a large number of them. Every jump I hit, my speed had to be spot on. Any little mistake would mess up the next couple of jumps. The track was not the only thing that was complicated. Trying to get around it as fast as possible, with riders right next to me was challenging. The trick was to ride my own race and be smooth while doing it.

I went to the race with my dad’s friend and his six year old son. He just got a new bike and this was his first race on it. He did a really good job at staying up and keeping his balance on the bike. He took fourth and I took third. The competition for my race was very challenging, but with the track conditions it was a successful day for me. I would like to go do it again one weekend, and hopefully do better than last time. I will have to learn the new layout of the track, because they change it up to keep it exciting. I will try my best and keep pushing till I reach my goal at the top.
