Being an Influence

There is no other feeling quite as extraordinary as being looked up to by kids. It is not easy though, athletes have to remember that their actions have an impact on peoples lives. If an athlete makes a bad decision and it gets out to the public, that could cost them supporters. Athletes always have to remember that they are a role model; whether that is a high school athlete being nice to kids who idolize them or professionals who have thousands of people cheering them on. Some may not see it, but people do look up to them and everything they do is criticized because they are important to others. Being a person that others look up to can change your entire outlook on being an athlete. It makes them want to be a better person all around. On the other side of this, being the kid that looks up to someone is also a good feeling. It can inspire the kid to push him or herself harder to be like their idol.

Although athletes do have a substantial amount of people who look up to them, that does mean that they are the only people worth idolizing. It does not have to be an athlete or have any involvement with sports. Someone I look up to has me three periods a day, and pushes me to not only be a good student but to also be a better person. I can say that I am on both sides of this, so knowing that I have an impact on someone else by my actions is one of the most amazing yet intense feelings.
