On September 13, 2016, Jefferson-Morgan Lady Rockets took on the Carmichaels Mikes in a home volleyball game. The atmosphere was electrifying during the game. These two school are known to be rivals. The crowds were huge for both Jefferson and Carmichaels. The theme for Jefferson’s student section was superhero. During the first set I was super nervous, but why wouldn’t I be, it’s one of our biggest games?

During warm ups, I was pumped up. I went out on the court with the other five starters and the game began. We scored the first point and continued to score. I had two blocks, five service points, and one kill in the first set. We won 25-19 and the crowd went  wild. We switched sides and high-fived our fans.

The second set started and once again we went out with our heads high ready to play. This set the score kept going back and forth. We were losing 19-17 when Julia, our coach, called a timeout. She had to practically scream for us to hear her over the crowd. We talked about what we need to fix and went back out. After that timeout, we won 25-22 and we were practically in tears. I couldn’t remember the last time Jefferson swept Carmichaels in three sets. We had one more set since it’s the best out of five. Could we sweep them in three sets?

On to the court we went, wanting this last one so bad. We started off a little slow. Sadly we had too many errors and ended up losing, 25-16, but we couldn’t give up now. Our coach called for a team huddle and we went over the errors and what we needed to fix, hoping that this would be our final set. We went out on to the court with the crowd cheering “We are JM”. This was it, this was our set to win, and it was. After fighting the whole set we won 25-21. Our student section ran onto the court and we all jumped and cheered. Later that night when I got home I realized that the next time we play them will be my last.
