Remarkable Rockets

The Remarkable Rockets is a group of students who represent a character trait for a given month. These traits deal with a student’s determination to work hard and help their fellow classmates. Every month has a different character trait, but multiple students can win during that one month. The Remarkable Rockets start in August/September where teachers can nominate students who have respect and are responsible. Nominations for the Remarkable Rockets go all year and end in May when teachers can nominate students who they think well represents leadership.

At the beginning of each month Mrs. Fulks, who is in charge of the Remarkable Rockets, sends out an email to all teachers. This message asks the teachers to please choose one boy and girl from the high school and one boy and girl from the middle school, based on that month’s trait. When Mrs. Fulks completes the lists given to her, they are sent to Mr. Orr and Mr. Robinson to make the final decision. They are chosen at the beginning of the month, but students are not notified until the end of the month.

Although more than one student can win at a time, two high school and two middle school students, Mr. Orr tries to pick different people. Usually, a student can only get picked for the Remarkable Rocket once, but a teacher can nominate them as many times as they wish. A student may only be picked more than once if there is still another spot to be chosen and a teacher has nominated them many times.

The Remarkable Rockets first started in 2011. Over the past six years, about 236 students got the honor of being a Remarkable Rocket. At the end of the month when the student is notified about being a Remarkable Rocket, they receive a certificate and a small gift. They also get their picture taken for the yearbook by someone on the yearbook staff.

The Remarkable Rockets was created to recognize those who do well in our school. The main focus is to recognize and reinforce the good character traits in the students of Jefferson Morgan.
