50th Anniversary of County Band and Chorus
On March 3rd, the Jefferson-Morgan Rocket Band will be participating in a country band concert. This concert includes many schools such as Carmichaels, Central Greene, Mapletown and West Greene. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the concert and as a result will be featuring conductors that have performed in the past and may conduct one last song. As a result this year has a larger number of music that is more difficult than last years. This would include famous songs such as The Stars and Stripes Forever, Emblem of Unity, Pieces of Eight, For The New Day Has Arisen, Armed Forces Salute and last but not least, Greene Majesty which will be played in honor of Greene County’s 50th Band Anniversary.
Jordan Hess, a sophomore at Jefferson-Morgan High School, said “County band this year seems both fun and challenging. I cannot wait to participate in it again.”
Students involved in either the band or chorus concert will report at Central Greene’s auditorium at 8:00 am from the first until the third. During March 2nd and 3rd instrumentalists will learn their music, rehearse and eat lunch then return to their schools at 2:00 pm. However, on the 3rd students will go to Waynesburg and follow their normal schedule but instead of leaving, they will stay and are treated to a nice banquet before their last warm up. All performers that are interested in attending the banquet are required to wear some sort dress clothes to it.
“I went to county band four three straight years and it was one of the best experiences I’ve had.” “It was the perfect blend of difficulty and joy and I definitely plan on seeing this year’s performance,” said, junior, Savannah Saesan.
The concert will be happening at 7 pm in Central Greene’s auditorium, all are welcome to watch the magic happen during the concert. Unfortunately there is charged admission but all profits go towards the continuation of this wonderful program. After the county band concert, viewers are in for a treat because they are able to hear the beauty that is the county chorus sing many classic and inspirational hits. Lastly, no transportation will be provided back to school after the concert. Leave with your family and have a good weekend!
