BeReal is an app for both teenagers and college students that promotes a real and less intense social media.

BeReal is a French app developed by Alexis Barreyat and Kevin Perreau, and it was released in 2020. However, the app didn’t become popular until mid-2022. BeReal simultaneously sends out a notification to its users to capture and share a photo within two minutes at a random time each day. It is known to either send the notification sometimes during the afternoon or even towards the late hours of the night. After posting, users can react to their friends’ posts or others using their own reaction photos.

Most social media apps are known to show only the glamorous and perfect elements of life. However, BeReal allows people to discover their friends’ real and unique daily lives. The app takes a picture using the phone’s front and back camera, and the app does not allow filters to be used with the pictures. The app is known as an anti-scroll social media. Users who have not posted for the day will not be able to see others’ posts until they publish their own post. However, if the two-minute posting period is missed, the users can still post, but their friends will be notified of their late post.

This app promotes a good, healthy side of social media. It allows others to see the true day to day life of their friends and others. This app is available for both iPhone and Android users.
