Through the holiday season, there are many traditions. Some traditions may have a religious background while others are simply due to one’s enjoyment. A common tradition within many households is baking and decorating a gingerbread house for both decoration and eating.

Decorating a gingerbread house originates from Germany. Supposedly, the tradition became popular after the well known story of Hansel and Gretel coming upon a home seemingly made from sugar and candy. However, the origin of the gingerbread is unclear.

For more information, The Guardian provides both the past on the tradition along with current information. It also gives fun facts such as the largest gingerbread village and a seemingly real life version.
