Easter is a nationwide holiday celebrated by lots of different people. Some people just celebrate it for the fun of it, while others celebrate it for the religious context. Even if you do not believe in what Easter stands for it is still something fun to celebrate. Or maybe you did not know the context behind the holiday and would like to know. That is what I am here to talk about.
Easter is a holiday celebrated everywhere, but not everyone knows what the meaning of the holiday is. Easter is known as the resurrection day of Jesus. In the Bible he was crucified for the sins of his people. He was dead for three days before resurrecting on Sunday. That is also another reason as to why church services are held on Sunday’s.
Not only are they celebrating his resurrection, but they celebrate the fact that he sacrificed himself for our sins. They found out he was resurrected and spread the news due to a woman named Mary Magdalene. She went to go visit what she thought was his grave but saw that the tomb was empty. She was frightened and confused thinking someone robbed his grave. Then she saw two angels inside of the tomb where Jesus’ body was supposed to be. They then told her to go spread the news. She was ecstatic and did it with no questions asked. That leads to the creation of easter egg hunting. It was created to represent the joy that Mary felt after finding out about Jesus and his resurrection.
In conclusion, the story behind the tradition is interesting whether you believe it or not is up to you. You can still celebrate the holiday regardless of what you believe. But if you did not know and wanted to know, now you do.
