Sometimes parents and teachers underestimate what’s going on in a child’s life. It isn’t exactly easy being a teenager, especially in this day and age. There are so many things going on in the world around us and we are at the age where everything is so interesting. Getting out and being able to have some freedom is important. Many times parents guard us because they don’t want us to make the mistakes that they made or they don’t want us getting in trouble. What they don’t realize is that it’s only pushing us away. Having freedom is important because sooner or later we will be on our own and need to make our own choices.

Constantly being on us is another thing. This goes for teachers and parents. Sometimes as teenagers we just want to be alone. It’s not that we have an attitude or we’re being disrespectful; we just simply want to have some time to get our thoughts together. Crowding us and nagging us to do this and that won’t make it any better. Ultimately it just makes us want to distance ourselves from the situation.

Teachers should understand that there is more to us than the way we act at school. Sometimes we act the way we do for certain reason. It’s kind of like teachers can be oblivious to what’s going on. They think that you aren’t trying when in reality you are. Most of the time they say you are just tired and that you aren’t doing your work, but they look past the fact of why are you always tired. Instead of assuming it wouldn’t hurt to ask what is wrong with us, or even if we’re okay.
