On March 17th, 2023 the Jefferson Morgan Varsity Academic team faced off in the playoffs at Penn State Fayette.

The first match began at 9:10 Am against Albert Galatian Highschool. The team was successful in defeating AG with a pretty decent lead. The next match the team played against the other winner of the other match which was Laurel Highlands. It was a one point game the entire match as one team would answer one question after another, but the team pulled through in the last lightning round and won their second match of the day. With that win the team were the winners of the winner’s bracket.

The team took a short break to prepare for the finals match against the winner’s of the loser’s bracket, Uniontown. Since you must lose 2 matches to be eliminated the finals were out of two. The Jefferson Morgan Varsity team only needed one win to secure the victory while Uniontown needed both matches to win the playoffs. The first match Uniontown defeated the Jefferson Morgan team by a large amount looking to win the final match. The Jefferson Morgan team then made a great comeback in the second match to ultimately win the whole playoffs.

“It was incredibly unexpected to win against Uniontown, but I’m proud of the performance of the team overall. I hope we can keep this momentum.” said Lauren Pahler.

“I’m glad we won and I hope we keep moving forward.” said Mia Baker.

The Jefferson Morgan Varsity Academic Team will now move on to the IU 1 regional on April 4th, 2023.
