Speechless

Sometimes I do not know what to say. I can be in a steady, flowing conversation with someone, and the next thing I know there is complete silence. I have trouble talking to someone in the first place let alone keeping the conversation going. A lot of the time, I guess I just freeze up. When I do not talk to someone often, I get worried that what I might say next will sound completely ridiculous. So, I just blurt some words out hoping they are in the right order and make sense.

Many times people freeze up when talking to someone attractive or just someone they do not know a lot about. In my opinion, the worst time to freeze up is talking to someone new. I want to make friends, but how do I do that if I am incapable of speaking? Spitting out gibberish is usually not the best way to make a first impression.  Most of the time it is just luck you have a common hobby with someone. In this way, the conversation can grow and you can feed off the other’s energy. Keeping a conversation growing is one of the hardest parts about talking to someone.

I hope that just talking with my friends will give me enough experience to make more in the future. It is quite difficult to do when all I can think of is what to say next. So, maybe guessing, and hopefully bringing up the right topic will increase my chances of making a new friend. Maybe, my spitting nonsense will one day come in handy, and I will be able to actually keep a conversation going. Until that day comes, I am good with the friends I have now and will work on improving my conversational abilities.
