Trying to Love Yourself
As a teenager I believe it is very hard to have self-confidence. People start to notice more about themselves as they get later into middle and high school. So because of this, teens also get jealous, have hard times and make fun of others. Not only is it bad to have self-confidence issues because someone who is meant to be great never will because they do not have the confidence to, but also it attacks at one’s heart. Lacking self-confidence can also make someone lack their self-worth, which then could potentially lead to suicide.
Suicide is the second leading reason for deaths for ages 10-24 and more teens and young adults die more from suicide than cancer, heart disease, and a few other issues combined. In this, one can bet that a lot of them lack self-confidence and therefore separate themselves from everyone else which leads to their death. Self-confidence, I believe, could lead to fewer suicides throughout the world. Although, there are many other reasons people choose this course of action, the number could go down tremendously. Self-confidence can help with people who get bullied, so they do not believe what is being said to them. Also, financial issues could lead to a lack of sel-confidence because someone knows they can change their life for the better.
Someone who has self-confidence does not question their life’s worth and with all the bullying that happens in high school, it can be quite difficult. High school is a vulnerable place for everyone because people are figuring out who they are. How can someone have self-confidence if they themselves do not know who they are? High school, just like the rest of life, proves to have many hard times. The only difference is, someone who is older has been hurt, and knows somewhat of how to deal with it. Teenagers are trying to figure out how to deal with all the pain and pressures life can bring. If someone plays sports, and has a hard time keeping up with everyone else, it could also drop ones self-confidence.
Not only is self-confidence brought down due to bullying, but also personal issues. If someone is having problems at home they could blame themselves. In turn, they lack their self-worth and it destroys ones self-confidence. So, during high school, do as the famous quote says “fake what you’re bad at until you become good at it.”
