Punk Goes Pop Better Than The Original
Other the last couple of months I’ve been getting more into listening to music, music that I enjoy listening. The kind that most people won’t technically listen to or think I would. I’m into the metalcore music, bands like Asking Alexandria, Bring Me The Horizon, A Day to Remember, I Prevail and so many others.
Punk Goes Pop is a compilation album part of the Punk Goes Pop series created by Fearless Records. It contains a collection of songs by various artists performing covers of pop songs. For me, what makes a cover great isn’t how much a band can make it sound like the original, but adding a flare that makes it unique and unpredictable. Either the band plays the cover straight, but filtering it through their own style, thereby presenting an alternate version of the song.
My favorite song from the Punk Goes Pop is Asking Alexandria – Right Now (Na Na Na). Not only because Asking Alexandria is my absolute favorite band but because it’s so much different than the original song. The song starts off with the same techno beat as the original by Akon but builds up into a metal breakdown at the chorus. The unexpected super heavy breakdown towards the end of the song is what I love the most.
I would recommend others who enjoy any of those bands that I’m into or if you’re into that kind of music to give Punk Goes Pop a chance. You might like the original version but could possibly change your mind after you give it a listen.
