Katrina Schmolke is staring as Fiona in the production of Shrek the Musical playing on February 25th-26th at 7 p.m. and the 27th at 1 p.m.

Shrek is not Schmolkes’ first play, she has played a part in The Little Mermaid (7th grade) and You Can’t Take It With You (9th grade). Schmolke auditioned for the role of Fiona because it was her favorite movie as a child.

“I chose to try out because I love acting and I am a little dramatic. So why not put it to good use. The reason why I tried out for Fiona was mainly due to my friends. I did not want such a big part. I thought I couldn’t handle it; but everyone has encouraged me so I figured why not.”

Hayley Finley is the dance choreographer for all the dance numbers in the production, while Mrs. Guritza helps with all of the music.

“Mr. Moore, when it comes to drama, is like a dad to most of us. I was nervous about singing for him because I felt like I don’t have a good voice,” said Katrina.

For Schmolke, she is excited to be the lead role in the musical. She has been a part of other school productions but has not had an important role like this years.

“I am on edge for opening night, honestly. I’m scared that I will mess up or something will go wrong. Almost all of us get this way, here and there, before show time.” Being on stage is a passion for Schmolke, and will continue to audition for future school productions.

Good luck to the cast, and hope to see everyone there!
