Practice Makes Perfect
During enrichment periods, students meet in the library to get ready for the May Reading Competition.
The students get into the three teams and are asked questions about books. In past years, students were unable to meet during school or were unable to stay long after school.
Taylor Eddy, a third year competitor, thinks that the meetings have had a huge effect on the teams.
“The practice helps the teams communicate better. Also, the teams get to find out who they work the best with, and who they bounce ideas off with easily,” Eddy said. “It also gives the teams a good idea of what the competition is actually like. That way no one is nervous and is prepared.”
Caroline DePhillips, a first year competitor, believes that the practices have helped her as well.
“I like going to the reading competition practices,” DePhillips commented. “It is a great chance to work with the team and get an amazing look at some great books.”
Both students hope that the practices are enough for the team to win the competition.
