Celebrities: Influential or Let Downs?
In this day and age, many people idolize celebrities. Singers, actors, and athletes, can be very inspirational to everyone especially depending on their backstory. We know a lot about their lives and what their daily routines are. Some people know even more about the celebrity than the person themselves do. Fans are dedicated people and will wait in line for hours to meet or get near their favorite celebrity.
Some people are so consumed by celebrities that when they are doing something morally wrong they are in complete shock. For example, Tiger Woods had multiple affairs. Now, if someone else did this it would not be as huge of a deal. Since some people hold celebrities at a completely different level than anyone else, we can become devastated.
Antonio Brown the wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, came an hour late to a signing, and only stayed for a half an hour. He also, treated his fans awful and acted like he did not want to be there.
“You think he would be talking to his fans and stuff like that. He just sat there with a miserable pout on his face like he just didn’t want to be there,” Katinsky said. “I walked up to the table like, ‘Hi, AB!’ He barely looked at me, signed my jersey and kind of tossed it away. That was it. (He) didn’t make eye contact with me, nothing.” She is a big time Steelers fan and gets a new jersey every year. Although, she says she will never again wear her Antonio Brown jersey.
Celebrities are also not all cracked up as there made to be. They can be rude and even considerate to other people. Kaitlyn, a Magcon fan, posted on Twitter after she went to a meet-and-greet. She wanted to see Jacob Sartorious a singer, who is one of her favorite celebrities.“Jacob was disgusted by my size. It is only for a quick second,” she wrote. Kaitlyn said that Jacob “looked at her up and down” and made a face that suggested disgust. “True idol right there,” she sarcastically tweeted.
There are also people who agree that celebrities treat their fans awful. They can be rude and self-centered.
“I feel like celebrities treat their fans awfully. Celebrities tend to have many fans, and I feel that their ego gets boosted way too high. Then they end up treating the people that brought them to the spotlight, rudely,” Michael Pochron, a senior said.
Although, there are some people who look up and love celebrities. After all, they have contributed to society and, gotten us through some hard times.
“I think some celebrities are very influential, generous, and are very kind,” Makayla McNett, a sophomore said.
