Dennis Garrett – Athlete Article

Dennis Garrett was interviewed about the sport he plays here at Jefferson Morgan. Garrett plays boys basketball. He’s in 9th grade, hes a freshamn.

Garrett started playing in 2nd grade, hes been playing ever since. Garrett enjoys basketball, he loves to play it. Garrett was asked what his jersey number, and why did he choose that number. He said “22, because I get that number every year.” It must be his lucky number. He was also asked why does he like basketball, what was his favorite thing about basketball and if he sees himself not playing basketball. Garrett said “I like basketball because it motivates me.” He also said “I couldn’t see myself not playing basketball.” Honestly, who doesn’t? once you play it long enough it becomes part of your life. Simply something you love.

Basketball if a very contact sport, you also have to be both physically and mentally fit. Theres tons of plays you have to run and plays you have to remember. Most times its all fast movements, other times (like trying to run out the clock if you’re a head) its slow movements. Basketball can be very difficult if you don’t have the dedication or will power. some people just play basketball to be cool or be known, in all honestly it won’t make you cool or well known if you’re not good at it. The only way you can be good at basketball is if you actually want to play for you, you have to actually enjoy it. Enjoying something and wanting to do something are two entirely different things.

Garrett Hasnt lettered yet which isnt surprising considering this is only his freshman year. Garretts dad use to play basketball for Jefferson too, he’s now the coach. He’s been coaching for a little while. Garrett mentioned “My dads been coaching here, he’s a great coach and is one of my motivations.” Garrets dad not only coached this year but last year too. “He’s not to strict on the players, but he’s not to nonstrict either.” That sounds like a great coach. Not to strict, but not to soft either.

I would like to wish the boys basketball team good luck this season. Hopefully it’ll be a great season, filled with fun memories and some winnings. But hey, winning isn’t everything and you can’t win without your team mates, it shouldn’t be 1 on 5. It has to be 5 on 5, with lots of communication and commitment. You win as a team, you loose a team. Its tht simple.
