Kayla Yorko is a junior on the Jefferson-Morgan girls basketball team.

Athletes often have a personal connection with their jersey number. “I have had this number since I was able to pick my own jersey. It has always been my number, and I feel comfortable when I have,” says Yorko. Her jersey number has a special meaning to her. She would not feel right playing in any other number.

Kayla enjoys playing both home and away games. She enjoys the feeling of playing at home, just being able to play in front of familiar faces. Although, away games bring Kayla the chance to show her abilities in front of other schools. “I enjoy both. Home games are nice so you can play in front of your friends and family, but away games are fun to show other schools your skills,” says Yorko. She has no preference as to where she plays. She enjoys the game no matter where it is being held.

Kayla has set a few goals for herself and teammates this season. “I would like to win sections, and make it to the playoffs. Most importantly I just want the team to get better,” says Yorko. Kayla would encourage more people to join the team as well to share in their success, “You will never want to stop playing. The team aspect will make you keep playing.”

All though Kayla has already lettered for the past two years in basketball, she will not quit pushing herself. Her coach and teammates both push her. The aspect of competition will always keep her in the game.
