Anna Mattish- Athlete Biography

Anna Mattish is a guard on the girl’s basketball team and lettered last year as a freshman. Anna has played since she was 6 but this is her second year of playing high school.

“My dad played basketball when he was in school so he got my brother and I interested in playing. I look up to my dad, that’s why I decided to stick with it.  My dad is my biggest fan and tries his best to attend every game. After the games, he gives me pointers on what to improve on.”  During Anna’s last game against Bentworth she scored around 8-10 points “In basketball, sometimes scoring isn’t everything needed to win. Good defense is needed to win as well as scoring.”

Mattish always plays basketball, March through July she plays AAU basketball and after that she plays in the summer league which is July through September.  When she’s not in a league she is preparing for the high school season.  “I think it’s important to practice, work hard and never give up in basketball. You won’t improve unless you put time and effort in to being the best you can be. ”Anna’s favorite memory is when they beat Carmichaels at home last year. “ Our toughest opponent this year should be California High School. They won the section last year. We came very close to beating them last year so this year we want to beat them and win the section.”

“My favorite professional player is LeBron James. He is very good at basketball and he is a good role model. He helps motivate his team to victory,” Mattish said.  “Jessica Washington is also my inspiration. She attends the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is very good and we play the same position.”  On her team she goes to Erin Sullenbarger, Kayla Yorko, and Ally Bogden when she needs help with basketball.  She goes to these people when she needs anything, it doesn’t even have to be basketball related.  This year she is looking forward to getting to spend time with her team, having another good season and hopefully making play offs.

Anna’s really looking forward to this season with her team. She is going to miss the upperclassmen when they graduate but she knows she will always share these memories made during basketball with them.
