Piercing the History of Piercings

Piercings have been around for centuries on end. They have evolved in many ways, and are one of the most common forms of body modification. A piercing is a puncture in the skin where jewelry is placed. They can be done in many different regions, from the ears, to the face, and even locations like the lower back.

A lot of people don’t know just how long piercing history goes back. The earliest known history of the piercing was actually discovered on the oldest mummy remains actually found, going back over 5,000 years ago. A nose piercing has been found to be dated back as early as 1500 BC. Other, well, not so appropriate piercings have also dated back to these times. Nowadays, every other person has a piercing. Whether it be an ear piercing, an eyebrow piercing, or a septum piercing, you will almost always find someone who has a few in a group of people. Despite the religious history behind the piercing, they are still controversial among some religions. It’s even more of a problem whenever the piercing is on someone who isn’t of an adult age yet. To this day there are still a lot of people against piercings, particularly on minors. In the 21st century, many piercings like the septum, eyebrow, and lips have become very popular. Another popular modification with ear piercings is the gauging of the ear. They are pierced at a normal size gauge and over time, they can be stretched with a stretching kit that increases in gauge size. This can also be done with septum piercings and even some lip piercings, and just practically any other piercing you can think of.

Overall, piercings have become a fashion statement. No matter what your style is, there is a piercing and specific jewelry out there for everyone. If you’re worried about the pain, remember that it’s over quickly and very worth it in the end.
