Kayla Yorko – Athlete Biography

Kayla Yorko is a Junior and shortstop on Jefferson Morgan’s softball team.

Kayla has been playing softball since she was seven, but when she got into middle school she stopped. When asked who was Kayla’s inspiration for playing, she responded with, “Chris Dugan. He is sick right now but he taught me everything I know. I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything.” Stated earlier, Kayla does play short, but she’s a utility player and can play anywhere. Her father played baseball and her uncle played in the major league for the Reds.

Kayla’s biggest fan is her mom. She hasn’t lettered in softball yet, but hopefully she will. Kayla is looking forward to pushing with the team and to win sections to go to playoffs. To keep up with the others in the off season she throws as much as she can. Kayla stated that she preferred home games because there is more of a crowd to cheer them on.

Kayla’s favorite professional player is Jennie Finch. Her advice for underclassmen students would be to keep working and don’t let it get you down. Kayla was asked who her toughest opponent was, and she responded with, “Myself. I doubt myself and I will forever be my biggest opponent.” Her go to people on the team are Maddie Dupont, Morgan Simkovic and Camryn Dugan because they are huge role models to her.

Kayla wears the Number 12 on the field and hope that her and the softball team the best of luck this season.
