A New Face

Jefferson – Morgan School District has a new face on staff. Recently, the school hired a new Director of Facilities. Doug Headley, who yes, is my dad, is the new face. Before this, Headley had been at a company that works with mines for almost 30 years. Having a new job after 30 years can be a dramatic change.

“This is a big change in my life, but one that is well worth it,” said Headley. “Coming from a mining environment to a school is going to seem weird to me. I won’t have to wear a hard hat and steel toed shoes everyday and the lack of noise from big construction vehicles will be different,” Headley said.

Headley is hoping to make a big impact on the school district in many ways. He has some projects that he wants to do that he thinks will make the school district more appealing. Additionally, he has some new things to learn about.

“I have some ideas on how I and the staff can make the district better. For example, I’d like to make the electronic sign in front of the high school more appealing by planting some plants and cleaning the area around it,” Headley explained. “I’ve never really had to paint a football field before, but it’s not something I can’t learn how to do,” said Headley.

Having a new job can be a stressful thing, but I can tell he’s not stressed by. On a personal note, I think it’s going to be cool seeing my dad at the same school I go to almost everyday. For, every member of my family is in the Jefferson – Morgan School District, but not for long, since I’m a senior.

Overall, Headley says he’s happy with his new job, and he has to get used to working with the existing staff members, but he’s looking forward to meeting the staff. Jefferson – Morgan School District has a great addition to the administration.
