Awareness of Healthy Eating- Victoria Conti

Having an awareness of healthy eating is important to realize in our younger years so we can use this as a building block to fuel health conscious choices throughout our entire lives.

It is important to realize that sometimes we cannot always eat whatever we want. Even though we are young and our metabolisms are high, so we may not gain weight, it is important to put nutritious foods into our bodies. For example, Molly Grandel favorite breakfast meal is a big fan of chocolate chip pancakes in the morning. However, she realizes she can’t always eat them, so she makes a substitute. Molly says “I like eggs,” and that is what she now eats instead. It is a more health conscious choice.

Healthy eating can stabilize children’s energy, sharpen their minds, and even out their moods. Kids prefer foods that taste good, so it is important to make healthy eating choices seem more appetizing. Teaching kids and teens that healthy eating can be tasty, can establish the desire to make healthy eating choices for the rest of their life. Even if teens and young kids may not gain weight by eating “junk” food it may still pose health threats on them. By eating these fatty foods, we can eventually develop diseases such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and even cancer. With that being said, making healthy eating choices in our younger years will benefit us immensely in our future.

Healthy eating can also be beneficial in a physical aspect. By eating healthier there is an ability better when doing any sort of physical activity, because the healthier the food the more energy is gained from it. Rece Henneman, a student athlete, if he made healthier choices while in season. Rece said, “Yes, it is important to eat healthier while I am playing basketball. It makes you feel like you are performing better.” It is clear that healthy eating can benefit in more than just a health aspect.

Being aware of your eating choices makes maintaining good health easier. Healthy eating choices are the building blocks to a healthy lifestyle. It may not always be the most appetizing choice, but it will be the most beneficial in the long run.
