Weight maintenance is a struggle for everyone. People look and feel healthier whenever they have muscle or even fat in places. Whenever a person doesn’t have enough weight on them they look ill. Maintaining a healthy weight also lowers the risk for heart disease and high blood pressure. Losing weight is an often cited resolution for some; however, for a number of people gaining weight is. 

One of the first steps to gaining weight is consuming more calories. A person may use protein shakes, smoothies, or bars to increase the intake of calories. Red meats, beans, whole milk, peanut butter, etc… is a good source of protein, so eating those types of food is also a good way to gain weight.

If a person consumes more calories than your body burns then the leftover weight will turn into muscle. More energy dense foods have more protein and carbohydrates, and if a person eats 3 meals a day and some snacks they would maintain a healthy weight. A person can eat seeds, dried fruit, grains, nuts, high-fat dairy, fats and oils as snacks to add some extra calories to their diet.

According to a Healthline article “How to Gain Weight Fast and Safely” being underweight could cause health problems just like being overweight. “Being underweight can also impair your immune function, raise your risk of infections, lead to osteoporosis and fractures and cause fertility problems.” People should make sure they are eating healthy enough to maintain a healthy weight.
