Michael Metz – Athlete Biography

Michael Metz is a junior and is a tight end on the football team.

When asked what advice he would give to someone thinking of joining the football team, Michael said, “Don’t take football lightly, your first play could be your last. Be mentally sharp and in really great shape.” Michael dedicates himself to the game and has practiced and played for five years.

In addition to playing for the team, Michael also enjoys other aspects of team play. He likes to think of the team almost like a family, and prefers to push ahead with the team together rather than on his own.

“Tight end is an extra receiver and extra blocker. Both parts are critical to a winning offence.” Michael considers his position, tight end, as a very important one. His best performance in this role was last year against West Greene, in which he received one sack, one touchdown, and seven tackles. He considers the conditioning for his role tiring, and feels putting himself in the best condition, both physical and mental, is the hardest part of the game. However, he also thinks it is the most essential and feels that nothing he has done would have been possible without this training.

As Michael is a junior, feels he will be returning to the football team for yet another year. He feels a sense of pride and tradition in playing this sport, and does not intend to give that up anytime soon.
