Maria Christy – Athlete Biography

Maria Christy is a junior and captain of the cheerleading squad.

Maria has been a cheerleader for the past 9 years. This season Maria would like to work on being a good captain. Maria says that the most rewarding thing about cheerleading is “Getting to go out to all of the games and cheer our school on.” Maria likes cheering for any event possible, and said her favorites are football games and pep rallies.

Maria said that cheerleading is a lot harder than people actually think. You can’t mess anything up or else it makes everyone look bad. The most difficult aspect of cheerleading is remembering over 100 cheers and the stunts. Maria would like to do cheerleading after school, but she doesn’t tumble.

Maria likes every aspect of cheerleading, including the team effort you have to put in. You have to try to be on time with the cheers and stunts. If you aren’t on time, you could mess everything up. Maria said “My favorite cheer is ‘Hey you, out in the crowd’ because we put up two extensions.” The athlete she looks up to most is Meredith from WVU.

Maria will be enjoying this season cheering for the Rockets and being captain. She would like to continue cheering even after high school. I give her and the squad good luck on their cheers and routines for the year.
