It is said that 190 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged annually, making Valentine’s Day the second most popular greeting card giving occasion right after Christmas. Common Valentine’s Day gifts are flowers chocolates, and candy. Also some people may even use the occasion to present lavish gifts, such as jewelry. It is also common for couples to arrange a romantic date to a restaurant or favorite place. There are also common symbols associated with Valentine’s Day such as hearts, red roses and Cupid. Cupid is a small winged baby with a bow and arrow and it is said if he shoots you with his bow and arrow you will fall in love. The red rose is the most popular flower on Valentine’s Day, the bud stands for romance and strong romantic feelings. There are multiple different theories to the origin of Valentine’s Day. The modern St. Valentine’s Day celebrations are said to have been derived from both ancient Christian and Roman tradition. One legend claims the holiday has originated from the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalis.
