Valentine’s Day is Loving Someone Else

The best way to spend Valentine’s Day is single, because you should love yourself and be your own Valentine.

“I am sixteen years deep on being single on Valentine’s Day, and I love it. I look forward to the half off chocolates the next day more than Valentine’s Day. People make it too big of a deal,” says Molly Grandel. Valentine’s Day is an overemphasized holiday, why should someone just confess their love for you one day out of the year? It is better to just love yourself that day and maybe go out with friends.

Valentine’s Day is best spent with people that are important to oneself, but when in a relationship it may add too much pressure. Being in a relationship on this particular holiday people are expected to go out of their way for their significant other. Then a person has to worry about flowers, dinners, and gifts, but for what? Why on this one specific day should someone go out of their way for a loved one, when they could just do little things all the time and it would potentially be better.

“When you’re single on Valentine’s Day it is just another day to enjoy yourself, without any pressure. You can just go see the new romantic comedy that came out that day with one of your friends. More than likely they don’t expect as much out of you as a boyfriend or girlfriend,” says Molly Grandel. Valentine’s Day is better spent single because by the time a person has got done planning it, is it even fun anymore?  Valentine’s Day is just a day of overcrowded restaurants and crushed dreams.

Overall, the expectations of Valentine’s Day when you’re in a relationship take the fun out of it. It is better to just be single and only have yourself to impress. It is much better spent this way.
