LEO Club Completes Adopt-A-Highway Clean Up

On October 13, members of Jefferso-Morgan LEO Club cleaned up a two mile stretch of road on SR 1011, a road that runs past Parker Field and and ends at Center Loop Road.

LEO Club is an organization dedicated to community service.  Members are required to complete various service projects throughout the year.  For this project, Mrs. Huba, sponsor of LEO Club, was assisted by middle school teacher Mrs. Boyle.  Mrs. Boyle, Mrs. Huba and nine students participated in the cleanup.

“It made me feel good cleaning the community,” said Kayla Yorko.  During the time spent cleaning, several members of the community drove by and thanked students for their service.

Trystan Weir, Kayla Yorko, Reagan Rush, Erin Sullenbarger, and Mrs. Huba started clean up at the end of the road and worked their way towards Jefferson.  Each member of this crew filled three or four garbage bags.  The content on the bags consisted of cans, bottles, chip and snack bags, and empty cigarette boxes.  Students remarked that each of these items thrown on the side of the road could just have easily been saved and thrown away later.

The second crew of students consisted of Hannah Kozich, Gavin Koratich, Dejia Thomas, David Blosser, and Erin Kline.  Students began clean up across from Diesel’s and continued to the underpass towards Mather.

LEO Club members are responsible for clean up four times a year.
