The Jefferson Morgan school district has a good bit of sports, activities, clubs and organizations that students could be involve with. Whether the students want to be involved or not are there choice but would rather come learn and then go home. Jefferson Morgan has school spirit and supports every event that is available to students. More of the support is more leaned toward sports other than band, certain clubs, or drama. Even though the school support is there not everyone is involved with the musical side to the school district.

“Jefferson Morgan has a good music program that not a lot of students are involved with. Don’t get me wrong the band has grown in numbers and have had a great season but the district takes the music program to lightly. I feel more students should take a chance in exploring more on the music side because at one point remember the district wanting to get rid of the music program. Even if the kids are not necessarily involved with band or chorus can still learn the reading of music” Said Kamau Wilson.

In the past the band, chorus or even the general music class was not always looked at or mentioned when it came to something good being brought up in the program. But would hold pep rallies for football players, basketball, wresting and so forth there great accomplishments over the season. If more students were to get involved with music and put their voices out that more needs to be done with the music program and expand more ideas to bring forth in the program would be able to be recognized for some of their great accomplishments.

“This was the best year so far in a long time that the marching band alone has grown and won 1^st place for every competition they traveled too. I feel they get most of their support from the boosters and family of the kids involved in the music program. Yes, the school supports and congratulations them when they do something great but never have that true school recognition when another sports team or club does something extraordinary,” said Kamau Wilson.

All in all, if more and more students were to be a part of the music that happens in the school then would have much more support as it continues to grow. Soon enough the music the school has now will not be big enough to house everything for band, chorus, or concert band because of everything that is needed.  With one voice to speak up to where others are speaking up can make a difference over time. Not everyone maybe like the fact of having a music program but it is some peoples passion such as sports or anything else.
