Is Prom Worth It?

Red+Ribbon+Week

This week was Red Ribbon Week at Jefferson-Morgan Junior Senior High School. Each day students dressed up as a way of saying no to drugs, alcohol and tobacco. This week has been implemented to spread awareness for drugs and alcohol across the nation. They have a popular catch phrase commonly used, “Just say no” which has been used various times this week. This campaign spreads a very important message to teens and younger students.

Senior Brittany Broadwater is partaking in Red Ribbon Week. She said, “I enjoy dressing up as a way to spread awareness as to why drugs, alcohol and tobacco are not a necessity to our society. I also think that drugs affect not only yourself, but those around you because of your poor decisions.”

This week Jefferson-Morgan has had some clever ideas to spread awareness. For example they wore sports gear to “team up against drugs, and Wednesday was Nerd day because “Smarties say no to drugs.” Everyone has been dressing up and we are doing a great job of spreading awareness around the community.

Red Ribbon Week was started after a DEA agent was kidnapped and tortured. Enrique S. “Kiki” Camarena Salazar was the agent that was kidnapped and killed. It is great that we spread awareness for someone so brave and to be honored properly.

This is a great cause and Jefferson-Morgan is doing their part. We have raised awareness around the community and hope to impact someone so they will say no. Remember Just say no! #JMPride
