Gaming no matter what platform it is all powered by the Central Processing Unit, CPU, or processor for short. It’s also obviously powered by the power supply, but that is no the topic of this week’s column.

A CPU is does everything for your computer, such as loading web pages, running calculations, rendering video, and everything else that is computer based. For gaming a CPU will do anything from physics rendering, running numbers, and anything that is background and not seen. Everything that is seeable is all thanks to the graphics card. One big topic to today’s PC enthusiasts is the question of which company has the best processors for gaming. Just like any other company these main processor manufacturers are trying to have the top of the line hardware. Today the two companies that make processors (mainly) are Intel and AMD. These are the only mainstream companies that make processors so the competition is tight between these two, but the real winner is Intel despite the popular belief of some people. In order to game you need a reliable brand of CPU and these two companies are the ones to buy from because they are mainly the only who sell processors. Prices for CPU’s for a gaming computer get up into the $700 range, but there are CPU’s that are more expensive and are basically to powerful for consumer level. These two companies are known for their own things when it comes to their CPU’s. AMD is known for how cheap their hardware is compared to those of Intel, and Intel is known for more expensive and slightly more powerful hardware. AMD is more on the price level for those who want a reliable but affordable computer without busting the piggy bank. AMD is the first company to sell consumer processors to the public and make it an industry that was inviting to competition. Intel came in and now is the best company for gaming reliability.

AMD is a good reliable company but Intel has is beat and the sales numbers don’t lie. Currently AMD is trying to take over the industry, but Intel is (by comparison) on a whole new level when it comes to power.
