Being a teenager is not what we expect it to be like when we are little. When we are little we think of being a teenager as being a grown up, which no kid ever really liked to think about. As a child you want to stay as a child forever. Staying as a child forever would mean there would be no responsibilities, no drama would happen, you wouldn’t have to make big decisions that would change a great handful of things, etc.

The teenage years are a lot more challenging, stressful, and complicated than what I thought they would be like when I was a little kid. There is so much drama that goes on in the teenage years. It’s a little too much sometimes. It’s also a little hard to wrap my head around at times. The only thing I can say to myself a lot when unnecessary and irrelevant drama happens between people is, “What?” What I see most of the time is drama arising between two friends from something that shouldn’t have caused a big deal, and it comes between those two friends messing with a friendship. Nowadays people can make big deals about anything and everything. I’ve seen drama ruin friendships. When I was a kid this wasn’t something I thought happened.

Being a teen is hard and stressful. There are so many things to worry about now that I didn’t have to worry about as a child. There’s high school I can worry day and night about, a permit and license I have to work for, a job I have to go to and exert to, etc. So much stuff happens in one day and there are not enough hours in a day for everything. Adults don’t understand what is teenagers are going through. There are times where everything that happens in a day causes emotional stress, mental stress, and sometimes even physical stress. Honestly there are times where I just want to cry because I can’t handle this teenage stress. Being a teenager means you have to become responsible. It is the time where you are a young adult and you need to start making young adult decisions. It’s a little overwhelming at times, but I know in the end it will be worth it. I know that I have to trudge through these teenage years with stress strapped to my back, responsibilities buckled around my waist with drama tagging along behind.

It’s not what I ever expected it to be. It’s overwhelming a lot. Being a teenager is different from what I thought being a teenager would be when I was little.
