Whether a rider rides on a track, in the woods, or in the back yard, it is always a good idea to have riding gear but sometimes, riders are confused on what type of gear to buy or what brand to look at. Riders need the proper gear to ride a bike and there are ways to tell what type of gear to buy.

Riding in the woods takes a special type of gear. The jersey and the pants will be the same but the helmet, gloves, and boots will be different. Woods riders should consider boots with treads rather than the motocross boots that don’t have much tread on the bottom of the boot. Traction is always necessary in the woods so boots with treads will help with traction in the mud. Another great piece of gear to have while riding in the woods is padded gloves. Padded gloves will offer the hands protection from bushes, tree limbs, and other things like rocks. A piece of gear that woods riders normally wear is a hydration pack. Hydration packs hold water and have a long tube that the rider can attach to their helmet to get a drink of water whenever they need it. Having a hydration pack in the woods is very important. Going back to the vehicle to get a drink is not as simple as it sounds.

For motocross riders, gear is also essential. Motocross riders will tend to use a neck brace more often than a woods rider. A motocross rider will be hitting jumps a lot and the force going through the back into the neck after landing can cause damage over time so a neck brace is a very important piece of gear. Another piece of gear for motocross riders would be goggles with a nose guard on them. Woods riders will sometimes have these types of goggles but motocross riders will tend to be closer to their opponents and can be hit by massive chunks of dirt that could possibly break a nose.

There are all kinds of different gear to choose from and there are also plenty of brands to choose from. The type of gear a rider needs to buy will depend on what the rider does and how vital it is to the rider’s protection. Choosing the brand is all personal preference, depending on what style or color the rider likes.
