Hell+in+a+Cell+Review

With Hell in a Cell having come and gone it’s time to look at the pay-per-view  itself, and see how it stacks up to the rest of the brand exclusive pay-per-views.

The show kicked off with one of the three Hell in a Cell matches on the card. The match saw Romen Reigns defend his US title against Rusev. It was a very passable match. It was definitely the weakest of the cell matches, but all in all it was good. It had some good spots which included rusev using a chain for his finisher and Roman hitting a crunchy spear of the steel steps for the win. Like I said before the match was good enough and the right person won.

The next match in the card was a match between Bayley and Dana Brooke. Now this match was just plain boring. While Bayley is super over with the crowd, she really isn’t ready for the main roster yet and she was brought up to fast. And with Dana Brooke she’s just complete trash. Bayley picked up the win after a Bayley-to-Belly so I guess that’s good, Bayley needed some wins under her belt.

Next was one of two tag matches on the card. It sow the Club (Luke Gallows and Carol Anderson) take on the team of Enzo and Big Cass. Before the match Enzo and Cass cut a scathing promo on the Club completely roasting them. Now with the actual match it was good. It showed some nice spots and an amazing segment where Big Cass got a hot tag and went on a complete tear throwing elbows and big boots everywhere. The match ended with Cass being distracted at ring side while Enzo eats the pin. This is a good decision for two reasons, one because it gave the Club got a well needed win and two it showed Cass as a dominant monster. WWE has shown that they want Cass to take on a singles career.

The next match and arguable the match of the night, was the WWE Universal Championship match between the champion Kevin Owens and the challenger Seth Rollins. This was also the second Hell in a Cell match of the night and it was also the best. It was well paced match between two of the best talents in the entire company. With hard hitting action that would be expected in a cell match with a nasty spot that saw KO get powerbombed through two tables set up outside of the ring. The match ended with interference from Chris Jericho which saw Seth get brutalized by flurry of chair shots from the two Canadian best friends. In all this was the best match of the night and a great cell match.

The next match was a Cruiserweight title match between champion T.J Perkins and Brian Kendrick. It was an okay match. It was a display of solid wrestling between two good workers, but it lacked anything else. It was boring. The crowd was obviously spent after the excitement of the previous match, so it wasn’t entirely the cruiserweights fault, but they didn’t really do anything to fix it. The match ended with Kendrick faking an ankle injury to catch T.J in the captions hook for the win. Like I said before the match was just okay. WWE has to let the cruiserweights become more fleshed out and have stories.

The next match was the Raw Tag Team title match between the champions New Day and the team of Cesaro and Sheamus. Like the one before it this match was just okay. There just wasn’t anything special about the match it was just a standard match with the New Day getting disqualified to retain their titles. These kind of shenanigans are going to happen until the New Day breaks Demolitions Tag Title reign so until then there is no tension to whether or not the New Day will lose their titles.

And finally we have the history making main event. The first ever time a women’s match has main evented a major WWE ppv and the first ever Women’s Hell in a Cell match. The match saw the WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks take on Charlotte (again) in the final Hell in a Cell match of the night. Now this might not have been the best match of the the night, but it did do what it had to do. What it did exactly was destroy the glass ceiling. It showed that the women are more than capable of main eventing. The whole match was great with on spot in particular stealing the show, Charlotte powerbombed Sasha through the announce table (which was awesome), but this set up a back injury for Sasha that would momentarily took her out of the match. The match would have been really great if it wasn’t for that horrible finish. After two failed attempts to throw Sasha through a table Charlotte hit her finisher to pin Sasha and win the title. Now this wouldn’t have been that bad if the show had not taken place in Boston. Boston is the hometown of Sasha banks. Now why WWE would ever think it was a good idea to have the Champion lose in front of a home crowd is beyond me. It just upset fans, it didn’t get Charlotte any heat it just left a sour note on an otherwise pretty good pay-per-view.

Now despite that the pay-per-veiw was definitely still a good one. It wasn’t the best by any means, but it was still passable and in most cases the people who needed to win won.
