Sleep is a magical thing, at a point of nearly everyone’s lives they have agreed that they needed more sleep or did not get enough. In all honestly you are only supposed to get 8 hours of sleep, no less than 7 hours. Sometimes you feel like that 7-8 hours is simply not enough. I know I do, but if you get too much sleep you will be just as tired as you would be if you gotten not enough hours.

Want to know a weird fact about humans? Humans can only go up to 11 days without sleeping. But we can go up to months without eating. Weird right? Well once you go for a certain amount of days without sleep you could very well experience micro-naps. Micro-naps are temporary episodes of sleep. They can range from a fraction of a second up to 30 seconds. Some people even have periods of confusion and hallucinations. There are even some cases to which it was physically painful to remain awake. Micro-naps are very dangerous, especially when it occurs during a situation that demands constant alertness, like driving a motor vehicle or working with heavy machinery. So the weird fact is after a certain amount of days without sleeping your body will force you to sleep. Which is pretty cool but dangerous.

Want to know some other weird facts? For dolphins, only one half of their brain actually goes to sleep at a time. Snails can actually sleep for 3 years, doesn’t that sound nice? Sea otters hold hands when they sleep so they do not drift away from each other. Now that’s relationship goals. Cats actually sleep for 70% of their lives away; must not be much of a life then. Did you know horses can sleep standing up? Now that’s exhausting! Rabbits often sleep with their eyes open, now that’s creepy. Giraffes only need 5-30 minutes of sleep in a 24 hour period, now Koalas on the other hand sleep up to 20 hours a day.

Wow. Isn’t sleep a beautiful thing?
