Colony Cafe

Pittsburgh has their first Cat Café with a dozen of cats wanting your attention.  The café is called Colony Cafe; 1125 Penn Ave. in the Strip District, allowing you to interact with adoptable animals. Philadelphia already has a couple cat cafes like Le Cat Cafe and Kawaii Kitty Cafe, but this is the first in Pennsylvania.

Owners Sue and Erik Hendrickson came up with the idea of opening their very own cat café after visiting one in Brooklyn. The two story café operates as a neighborhood café on the lower level serving espresso beverages, wine, cocktails and snacks, while a staircase upstairs leads to 10 cats on the upper level of the building. All the animals are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered.

Colony Café partnered up with Animal Friends to get the cats and will have the same adoption form as the shelter. Cat sessions cost $8 for one hour and the loft is limited to 10 people at a time. The Colony Cafe is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.  Guests can wait in the cafe for an open slot or make a reservation online.

The Colony Cafe is a good place to go if you have a love for cats or even just coffee.  It has some pretty good benefits, you can play around with the cats and if you happen to fall in love with one you can adopt it.
